Where students and families come together

Hand-in-Hand Early Learning Center is a collaboration between Oak Harbor Public Schools and Skagit/Island Head Start. Our program consists of Oak Harbor Public Schools Special Education Preschool/Title One Pre-K classes and Head Start.

The Oak Harbor Public Schools Special Education Preschool is a federally funded program for children ages three to five, who qualify for special educational services based on state and federal guidelines. All classes provide developmentally appropriate activities, materials, and equipment to meet the needs of the children in our program. Our program is designed to give all children many varied experiences through activities planned to develop and maintain skills in the following areas:

  • social/emotional,
  • self-help
  • fine and gross motor
  • cognition (thinking and learning)
  • early literacy
  • communication

Our OHPS teachers are certified with a background in Early Childhood Development and are endorsed to teach Special Education. In addition to the preschool classrooms, we have on staff an Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, School Psychologist, Speech/Language Therapist, school secretary, family support staff, and program administrators.
