Thinking about making a difference in our schools? Oak Harbor Public Schools has several School Board positions up for election this November! KOMO News Tours Construction Site

KOMO News Reporter Denise Whitaker and Photographer Matt Landers visited the construction site of the new Crescent Harbor Elementary School this week. During their visit, they interviewed Superintendent Dr. Michelle Kuss-Cybula, CHE teacher Allison Reed, HomeConnection student Brenna Webster, and NAS Whidbey Island Commanding Officer Captain Gammache.

Their upcoming story will highlight the construction of the new Crescent Harbor Elementary and HomeConnection/Hand-in-Hand Schools—projects made possible because of relentless advocacy and collaboration as #TeamWhidbey and #OneOakHarbor. The projects are entirely funded by state and federal grants.

Students in AVID Program Tour NAS Whidbey

North Whidbey Middle School Students in the AVID program took a field trip this week to Naval Air Station Whidbey Island (NASWI). Students were able to see a live simulation and toured the fire department.

Advancement Via Individual Determination or AVID is an in-school academic support program that provides students with skills and resources to prepare for college eligibility and success.

Thank you to NASWI and teacher Ms. Ricketts for making this trip possible for students!

"Talk. They Hear You." Parent's Night Out Presentation

Join us for a one-hour “Parents’ Night Out” presentation at 6 p.m. on April 21 at North Whidbey Middle School! The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA’s) “Talk. They Hear You.” campaign engages parents and caregivers of children under age 21 in the prevention of underage drinking and substance use. The session is coordinated by our Student Assistance Professionals from North Whidbey Middle School, Oak Harbor Intermediate School, and Oak Harbor High School.

Tickets Available April 24 for High School Musical!

Oak Harbor High School's Choir Club Presents "Disney's High School Musical!" You won't want to miss this fun night of upbeat music and performances from our talented students. Proceeds for this Choir Club musical go to future musicals, club travel and other club expenses.

The show opens on May 1 with performances on May 1-3 and 8-10 at 7 p.m. at the OHHS SUB. Online tickets are available today or you can purchase them at the door.

Oak Harbor Robotics Team Takes on the World

The Wildcats Robotics Team 2980 traveled to Houston this week for the 2025 FIRST World Championship! The competition continues through April 19. Go Wildcats! Your community is rallying behind you!

Kindergarten Orientations Kicked Off This Week

Future Kindergarteners and their families were welcomed at Olympic View Elementary, Oak Harbor Elementary, and Hillcrest Elementary this week for Kindergarten Orientations. Families learned about daily routines, toured classrooms, met the principal and teachers and received resources to support kindergarten readiness.

Upcoming Kindergarten Orientations:
  • Broad View Elementary: Tuesday, April 22, 5-6 p.m.
  • Crescent Harbor Elementary: Wednesday, April 23, 5-6 p.m.
Reach out to your school if you missed orientation and would like more resources. You can also see the Kindergarten Families Guide that includes other important upcoming dates on our website. Enrollment is open, so enroll today if you haven't already!

Egg Drop Challenge at Olympic View Elementary

Olympic View Elementary hosted their annual Egg Drop Challenge with the help of our Oak Harbor Fire Department! Thank you to Mrs. Brodt for helping out and organizing the event! The students had an absolute blast testing their designs and cheering each other on.

Oak Harbor Schools Purple Up

Staff, students, and volunteers came out to celebrate Purple Up Day this week! Purple Up Day is an annual tradition in recognition Month of the Military Child. 40% of our families are military-connected and Oak Harbor Public Schools is a proud Purple Star Award district.

Peer to Peer Prevention Support

North Whidbey Middle School's Peer to Peer (P2P) student leaders visited Oak Harbor Intermediate School to present substance use prevention strategies to 5th and 6th grade classes. The OHI P2P student leaders were gracious hosts who toured the NWMS students. Thank you to Student Assistant Professionals Natalie Lasley and Sandie Bellie for coordinating and mental health counselor Joycelin Vester who helped chaperone the trip.
